Here are 4 ASX stocks working with OpenAI…so far! And why these deals are just as ground breaking for OpenAI
The list of ASX stocks working with OpenAI is only just getting started…but it is a longer list than you may think. We are not talking about companies searchable by ChatGPT. This list is of companies that are formally business partners with Sam Altman’s companies. There are only 4 so far, but it is a list that we expect to grow in the coming years. And what is more, is that these deals are not mere provisions for servers or memory, these are testing beds for real world case studies where there is potential, but it is largely untapped (so far) given the lack of use in these sectors.
Here is the list.

4 ASX stocks working with OpenAI
CBA (ASX:CBA)
In August 2025, CBA signed a multi-year partnership with OpenAI to deploy generative-AI tools, giving employees access to enterprise ChatGPT and planning collaboration to boost fraud detection and customer personalisation. The hope is that this will give CBA a competitive advantage over other Australian banks in AI adoption in many respects – obviously from a cost cutting perspective via the automation of paperwork and compliance tasks, but also better fraud and financial crime detection. Many of its Big 4 Peers would tell you that breaches do not come cheap.
But what is in it for OpenAI? Well, it will obtain deep enterprise use-case data from one of the world’s most advanced retail banks and credibility in an industry as regulated and high-bar as financial services. It is the ultimate showcase case study to pitch to other banks globally for similar collaborations.
Virgin Australia (ASX:VGN)
In November 2025, Virgin Australia announced a collaboration with OpenAI to integrate AI capabilities (e.g. ChatGPT/AI-powered flight search and travel-planning tools) into its customer-facing services. Similar to CBA, this gives it an entry point to the travel industry and a real-world testing environment.
But it could be good for Virgin too in automating customer services, dynamic pricing insights and operational efficiency. It could help consumers search for,’ A warm beach holiday in May for under A$1,000′ for instance, but also help with crew scheduling, maintenance planning and internal knowledge lookup.
NextEd (ASX:NXD)
This company, formerly known as iCollege, partnered with OpenAI to deploy “ChatGPT Edu” across its vocational education campuses nationally. The hope is that it can reduce training creation costs.
For its stakeholders, it can improve teacher productivity through lesson planning and marking assistance, as well as higher student satisfaction and outcomes through personalised learning. It could provide competitive differentiation in an industry where margins are tight. Keep in mind, NextED is vocational-educational focused, and this is an area that is a globally huge market but one where OpenAI is underpenetrated (so far).
NextDC (ASX:NXT)
NextDC gave us the inspiration for this article. Late last week, OpenAI became one of the major customers for one of NextDC’s data centres in Sydney’s Eastern Creek that will be 650 megawatts in size. Sam Altman was quoted as saying that,’ Australia is well-placed to become a global leader in AI, with deep technical talent, strong institutions and a clear ambition to use new technology to lift productivity’.
Its Chief Strategy Officer, Jason Kwon, was quoted as saying this was,’ just the beginning’. ‘Our hope is that this sends a pretty clear signal to the Australian market that there is more to be built to enable more economic activity’. Nonetheless, he warned that the lack of an exemption to copyright rules was a roadblock to greater AI-based innovation.
For NextDC, it will benefit from the cash it will receive but also the signal it will send to other would-be tenants. With NXT expanding overseas, we wouldn’t be surprised to see further deals with OpenAI in other jurisdictions.
