It is Diggers and Dealers 2023 this week. Here’s what you need to know!

Nick Sundich Nick Sundich, August 21, 2023

Happy Diggers and Dealers week! This week, the ASX resources industry (miners, developers and explorers alike) all descend on Kalgoorlie for ‘Australia’s premier international mining conference’, doing so for the 32nd time. It is important that resources sector investors pay attention – even if they’re not going.

Why Diggers and Dealers is a big deal

Virtually all resources companies listed on the ASX and with projects in Australia attend Diggers and Dealers. It is a chance for them to network with other companies (such as engineering firms and financiers that could help down the track) and show off their progress to other companies, investors and the media.

What will happen?

Diggers and Dealers will go over three days – Monday to Wednesday – and involve presentations all day – mostly from companies but also from mining analysts and one keynote speaker – and evening get togethers by all attendees. Companies with nearby projects will exploit the opportunity to conduct site tours.

This years’ Diggers and Dealers keynote speaker will be economist, writer and broadcaster Dr Linda Yueh. You can watch proceedings online from the forum’s website. Key companies to watch will be battery metal companies including Pilbara Minerals (ASX:PLS), Chalice (ASX:CHN), Lynas (ASX:LYC), Patriot Battery Metals (ASX:PMT), Core Lithium (ASX:CXO).

On the last night there’ll be a series of awards including The Digger of the Year, Dealer of the Year, GJ Stokes Memorial Award, Media Award and Best Emerging Company Award. The latter award has had a reputation as being a ‘kiss of death’ because many winners up until 2017 hit the skids. But the past few years’ winners – not so much.

All investors should tune in – at least for their own companies

But if you own any company presenting, we recommend tuning in – even if only for your company’s presentation. Investors looking to get into any of the company would be well advised to tune in too.
